What Is Radical Acceptance?

What’s your view on radical acceptance?

It was our theme for March inside the membership. And with this theme in mind, there’s an incredible quote from ancient stoic philosopher Epictetus that can help us understand the concept a little deeper:

“There are two rules to keep at the ready: that there is nothing good or bad outside of my own reasoned choice, and that we shouldn’t try to lead events but to follow them”. Epictetus, Discourses

I suppose what we can take from this ancient philosopher’s insight—the same insight, in fact, that every civilisation since time began has ended up realising—is this:

You, my friend, are always in control. You have the choice of reaction. You choose what labels or expectations make a situation good or bad. We have the option to change those labels and expectations, and learn to radially accept what’s happening around us.

The result?

We end up being happier. It’s literally that simple.

And the tools to support you in being less reactive, in learning to accept more, in living a little (a lot?) more joyfully are all inside my membership.

In particular, I recommend scheduling in this yoga nidra today. Learning to be radically accepting helps if you’re radically rested, too.
